MAYOR’S 2015 GOLF OUTING JUMP-STARTS HARRISBURG PARKS FOUNDATION

The Mayor’s Golf Outing, produced by the newly-formed Harrisburg Parks Foundation, was held on Friday, August 7, 2015.  Twenty teams representing 80 players took part in the event held at the Sportsman’s Golf Course.  The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support the City’s parks and recreational facilities, particularly through the repair and replacement of obsolete playground equipment.

The Outing, as the first fundraising effort of the Harrisburg Parks Foundation, netted over $8,000.  The Outing also included an awards celebration dinner which recognized players with trophies and prizes for their performance.

In addition to the Foundation members and participants, a number of sponsors supported the Golf Outing helping to net greater funds for the Foundation’s work.  The Harrisburg Parks Foundation is a project with the Foundation for Enhancing Communities, fiscal sponsor.  The event launched the Foundation’s new presence and its’ ability to raise funds for the City’s parks and recreation needs.

The Foundation Committee subsequently voted to fund the installation of a new three-bay swing set at the Vernon Street Playground at 15th and Vernon Streets on Harrisburg’s Allison Hill.  This replaced one that had substantially deteriorated was unsafe for use and was subsequently removed.
